La Universidad Santo Tomas (UST) fue re-acreditada por la Comisión Nacional de Acreditación (CNA) desde diciembre 2007 hasta Diciembre 2011, aumentando los años de acreditación desde la ultima vez que puso a disposición voluntariamente para ser fiscalizada por la entidad (primera acreditación fue de 2 años y la acreditación actual es por 4 años) con lo cual la institución y los estudiantes de ésta podrán seguir accediendo a beneficios estatales como el Cerdito con aval del Estado, entre otros. Pero aun falta, ya que la UST fue acreditada en dos áreas (mínimo para ser acreditadas) las cuales son "gestión Institucional" y "docencia conducente a título", sin embargo ninguna universidad tubo la totalidad de las áreas acreditadas las cuales son:
-Gestión Institucional
-Docencia conducente a título
-Investigación
-Docencia de Postgrado
-Vinculación con el medio
-Infraestructura y equipamiento
-Educación Continua
Por lo tanto pedimos a nuestros directivos de la Universidad tanto a nivel nacional como local a mejorar, en la mayor parte de áreas posibles, no tan solo con el objeto de ser re-acreditadas, sino que para ganar prestigio, otro tema que también debo señalar y pedir a las personas competentes es que no se produzca el "efecto regiones extremas", es decir que los recursos no se centralicen solo en las sedes del centro del país ya que esto le resta importancia a la institución en las regiones.
